Prof. Christopher Lord, D.Phil.

Prof. Christopher Lord is a distinguished Professor of Cancer Genomics and Deputy Head of Division at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London. His expertise lies in Precision Oncology and exploiting genetic vulnerabilities in cancer cells. He is best known for his pioneering research into the concept of synthetic lethality, which led to the key discovery of the synthetic lethal interaction between BRCA tumor-suppressor genes and PARP inhibitors. This finding was crucial for the clinical approval and use of PARP inhibitors in treating cancers like breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer. His ongoing work explores new synthetic lethal approaches and mechanisms of drug resistance. Prof. Lord holds a D.Phil. (PhD) in Disease Genetics from the University of Oxford.
