The Department of Biology at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University hosted its first-ever external evaluation by the International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) on 11–12 March. During the two-day visit, leading international experts assessed the quality of the institute’s scientific activities, met with research group leaders and faculty management, and provided independent feedback that will be important for the institute’s future strategic development and for strengthening its international competitiveness.
On March 11 and 12, the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, hosted the historically first external evaluation by the International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB).
The aim of this evaluation was to receive independent, professional feedback from world-leading experts regarding the quality of scientific activities of the department, and the direction of research groups. Over the course of two days, ISAB members learned about the department's key projects, met with group leaders and department as well as faculty management.
The outcomes of this assessment will be vital for the Department of Biology in shaping its future strategy, increasing international competitiveness, and strengthening its position as a center of research excellence.
Prof. Ondřej Slabý, Head of the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, has received the Academician of the Year 2026 award, which he has also been awarded in the past. This prestigious prize is presented annually by students of the Faculty of Medicine to teachers who have impressed them the most through their approach to teaching, expertise, and support of students during their studies.
In January, the newly established International Scientific Advisory Board of the Department of Biology held its first online meeting. Composed of five renowned international scientists, this advisory body will play a key role in the regular evaluation of the department and its research teams, helping to maintain the highest standards of scientific excellence.
