In the category Dean’s Award of FM MU for Best Publication – Preclinical Topic, the 1st place was awarded to the research team led by Lumír Krejčí for the publication “RECQ4-MUS81 interaction contributes to telomere maintenance with implications to Rothmund-Thomson syndrome”. The study uncovered a key mechanism that helps maintain genome stability by coordinating the activity of the proteins RECQ4 and MUS81, with important implications for understanding the rare genetic disorder Rothmund-Thomson syndrome.
The 2nd place in the same category was awarded to the research team led by Nicola Silva for the publication “Overlapping and separable activities of BRA-2 and HIM-17 promote occurrence and regulation of pairing and synapsis during Caenorhabditis elegans meiosis”. Their work contributes to a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing chromosome pairing and synapsis during meiosis.
Another success for the Department of Biology came in the category Dean’s Award of FM MU for the Best Completed Project, where Nicola Silva received the 2nd place award for the project “A Chromatin Modification-mediated Mechanism Illuminates a Novel Pathway for the Establishment of Meiotic Chromosome Synapsis”. The project focused on the regulation of meiotic chromosome synapsis and provided new insights into the mechanisms ensuring faithful chromosome segregation during the formation of gametes.
