BIOTOP Seminars

Discover Career Options Beyond Academia

General information

Seemingly peculiar name “BIOTOP” stands for BIOtech Talks to PhD. In broad strokes, these seminars aim to bridge the gap between the academia and industry and present various career options in the field of Life Sciences. Invited guests are scientists who worked in academia but then decided to continue their research career in private sector companies either in Czech Republic or abroad.

The goals of these seminars are to:
- Create an awareness of the type of jobs that exist in the Industry sector
- Help participants network
- Learn what type of skills are required to transition to Industry and how they can be developed
- Organize workshops
- Provide some consulting on job search and job interviews

These seminars are meant to help doctoral students but also master students or postdocs, understand what job opportunities exist in the Biotech/Industry space, how they can transition and how they should be using their time to develop skills and improve their CV.

In the seminars we invite people that hold a PhD in biological sciences field, who are working in the industry. The Fall Edition was focused on their personal experience, why and how they transitioned, what are the pros and cons, and what is their main advice.

In this Spring Edition we are aiming to be more specific into the concepts of the industry space that can be the most interesting for PhDs, such as starting your own company. So we have invited different speakers to introduce the topic from different angles.

Participants from all disciplines and career stage (Master student, PhD student or Postdoctoral) are welcome.
