Scientists at the Biology Department received two GAČR grants this year

Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) will support 2 new research projects at the Biology Department. Specifically, these are standard projects with a duration of 3 years in the research groups leaded by Professor David Šmajs and Doctor Nicola Silva.

GAČR will support 459 new standard projects from all areas of research this year. A sum of CZK 3.5 billion will be allocated to these projects in the next three years. Masaryk University was overall very successful and received a support for 52 standard projects, of which 4 projects will be solved at the Faculty of Medicine.

Supported projects at the Faculty of Medicine also include two projects of researchers at the Biology Department. As part of the first project, the team of Professor David Šmajs will work on the cultivation of the causative agent of syphilis in vitro aiming to develop a new tool for studying the genetics and interactions of Treponema pallidum with eukaryotic cells. For the second project, the group leaded by Dr. Nicola Silva will investigate new mechanism based on chromatin modification that leads to the formation of the meiotic synapse of chromosomes.
