This year, the Biology Department is traditionally organizing the Annual PhD Conference in Biomedical Sciences, which will take place on the 6th-8th of November at the University Campus in Brno. More than 50 PhD students from various departments of the Faculty of Medicine MU, CEITEC MU and FNUSA-ICRC will present the results of their dissertations in the field of Biomedicine.
The Annual PhD Conference in Biomedical Sciences brings together PhD students from different fields offering a chance to present their research in front of a miscellaneous audience promoting open discussions among participants.
The conference will be held among students of all three specializations following the idea "More people, more science & more fun!". Therefore, all students in the program take active part creating a team spirit, facilitating exchange of ideas and promoting communication between different departments.
Newly, the whole conference will take place in the CEITEC MU atrium. The conference starts on the 6th November and the registration desk will be open from 08:00 - 08:30.
This year, the conference will last three days. Overall, 7 students will give talks as part of their doctoral state exams, 8 students will present their progress report s and 45 students will present posters during three poster sessions, which create great environment for networking. Scientists from the Biology department at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University discovered new mechanisms controlling the division of tumor cells while studying skin melanomas. Their findings represent an important springboard for future drug development.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Agency for Health Research of the Czech Republic (AZV ČR), its chairman Ondřej Slabý awarded special prizes to nine scientists, the main areas of which were chosen as the most successful during the entire existence of the agency. The laureates include Dr. Pavel Krejčí for the project Identification of new treatment options for achondroplasia through the analysis of the interaction between FGFR3 and the adapter protein Frs2.
