From PhD to Senior Scientist at SOTIO Biotech (CZE)
With Michaela Fojtu, PhD
Michaela Fojtů is a scientist with an academic and research background in Biochemistry, Genomics, and Proteomics, obtained from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University. She earned her PhD in Physiology and Pathological Physiology from the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University, during which she was honored with the Brno PhD Talent Award in 2014.
Michaela's research journey is marked by international experience, including a fellowship at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, where she explored the potential of 2D nanomaterials for drug targeting applications. Following the completion of her PhD in 2018, Michaela joined the Centre for Advanced Functional Nanorobots in Prague, further advancing her expertise in nanotechnology.
Her contributions to science were recognized with the Werner von Siemens Prize for her PhD thesis in 2019. In 2020, she was awarded the Fulbright Fellowship to the Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, USA, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. There, she worked on research in the development of antibody-nanoparticle conjugate–based targeted immunotherapy.
Michaela's dedication to advancing scientific knowledge has earned her numerous accolades, including the Rector’s Award for Outstanding Research Results in Natural Sciences and Medicine in 2023, awarded to young scientists under 35 years of age. Currently, she works as a Senior Scientist at Sotio Biotech, focusing on the development of antibody-drug conjugates for the treatment of various solid tumors, with a particular emphasis on pharmacology studies.
In addition to her role at Sotio Biotech, Michaela remains active in academia, contributing to research at Masaryk University. Her work there focuses on the targeted delivery of anticancer drugs using nanorobots and polymeric systems, bridging cutting-edge nanotechnology with therapeutic applications. She is committed to translating scientific innovations into impactful healthcare solutions.
