Annual PhD Conference
Annual PhD Conference in Biomedical Sciences
The Annual PhD Conference in Biomedical Sciences brings together PhD students from different fields, offering a chance to present their research in front of their peers, supervisors and the Doctoral Board/Committee. The conference usually lasts three days, and all PhD students should actively participate (participation at the PhD conference is one of the degree requirements).
Since 2021, the PhD conference is held among students of all three specializations following the idea "More people, more science & more fun!". Therefore, all students in the program take active part creating a team spirit, facilitating exchange of ideas and promoting communication between different departments.
POSTER PRESENTATION
All PhD students except those who pass the doctoral state exam
Posters are commonly used in the academic community, and scientists will probably come across poster sessions at most conferences during their academic carrier. A research poster should summarize research concisely and attractively to help publicize it and generate discussion. The poster usually provides a big picture of the research project including background information, results, methods and importantly future research directions. First-year students can briefly sum up their research project/proposal as discussed with their supervisor. Students in their first semester of studies can participate only passively.
DOCTORAL STATE EXAM
3rd or alternatively 4th year PhD students
Students should summarize their research project and place it in the context of medical biology in a 20 min presentation. The presentation is then followed by a 20 min discussion that includes questions specific to the research project (hypothesis, methodology, planned outcomes) as well as general and theoretical questions related to the specialization and the focus of the PhD project.
PROGRESS REPORT
6th and higher year students
PhD students who exceeded over the standard length of studies are asked to prepare a brief 10 min progress presentation of their dissertation topic on top of the poster. The presentation will be followed by a short 5 min discussion.
