Individual Study Plan

The Individual Study Plan (ISP) is an agreement between the PhD candidate, supervisor, and doctoral board. It defines study and research requirements and deadlines. Once approved, it is binding. The IS MU application Approval and Evaluation of PhD Individual Study Plans serves to prepare, approve, and evaluate the ISP.

ISP Preparation
  • The ISP includes a study plan divided into sections: research goals, consultations, funding, intellectual property or ethics, cooperation with institutions, and a first-term plan.
  • The PhD candidate prepares the ISP; the supervisor and doctoral board approve it.
    • Approval deadlines: January 31 (autumn semester) or August 31 (spring semester).
  • Modifications are allowed only in exceptional cases (e.g., change of research focus or funding).
Term Evaluation
  • Each term, the PhD candidate submits a self-evaluation with explanations of deviations to the approved ISP and a plan for the next period.
    • Deadlines: February 7 (autumn), September 7 (spring).
  • The supervisor evaluates the candidate’s progress and approves or disapproves continuation.
    • Deadlines: February 28/29 (autumn), September 30 (spring).
  • The doctoral board evaluates the candidate at least once per year and decides on continuation.
Documents
  • All parties may upload relevant documents (e.g., TAC reports, posters, presentations, reviews) to the ISP application.

More information is available in manuals for PhD candidates, supervisors, and doctoral boards, or on the MUNI PhD web.
