Interview with Ondřej Slabý about the BabyFox project

In September this year, the team of Prof. Slabý launched The BabyFox project. Its primary goal is to obtain the results of rapid whole-genome sequencing (rWGS) in patients with genetic diseases in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units in the shortest possible time, within seven days at the latest.

Scientists from the Biology department at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University discovered new mechanisms controlling the division of tumor cells while studying skin melanomas. Their findings represent an important springboard for future drug development.

The Annual PhD Conference in Biomedical Sciences 2024 is approaching

This year, the Biology Department is traditionally organizing the Annual PhD Conference in Biomedical Sciences, which will take place on the 6th-8th of November at the University Campus in Brno. More than 50 PhD students from various departments of the Faculty of Medicine MU, CEITEC MU and FNUSA-ICRC will present the results of their dissertations in the field of Biomedicine.

Dr. Pavel Krejčí received an extraordinary award from the chairman of the AZV CR

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Agency for Health Research of the Czech Republic (AZV ČR), its chairman Ondřej Slabý awarded special prizes to nine scientists, the main areas of which were chosen as the most successful during the entire existence of the agency. The laureates include Dr. Pavel Krejčí for the project Identification of new treatment options for achondroplasia through the analysis of the interaction between FGFR3 and the adapter protein Frs2.

The European Molecular Biology Association (EMBO) published today the names of the newly elected members. Among them is also the biologist Lumír Krejčí, who works at the Faculty of Medicine and Natural Sciences at the Masaryk University.

The head of the Biology department Ondřej Slabý in an interview with Lucie Výborná

Professor Ondřej Slabý is the head of the Biology department at the Faculty of Medicine MU, the head of the Precision Medicine Center of the Brno University Hospital and also works as a scientific director in the management of the National Institute for Cancer Research. He is an expert in tumor biology, on which modern targeted treatment is based. Thanks to it, it is possible to significantly improve the quality of life and prognosis of patients.

The Presidium of the GA CR ranked the results of Dr. Nicola Silva´s research project as outstanding

In the standard GAČR project, which was completed in 2022, the research team of Dr. Nicola Silva from the Biology department of the Faculty of Medicine MU studied the complexity of DNA repair dynamics in the germline. At the final evaluation by the chairmanship of the GA CR, the research results were rated as excellent. Congratulations!

On Wednesday 13 March, the award for the best dissertation was presented to RNDr. Kateřina Snopková, Ph.D. and prof. MUDr. David Šmajs, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University.
