Scientists at the Biology Department received two GAČR grants this year

Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) will support 2 new research projects at the Biology Department. Specifically, these are standard projects with a duration of 3 years in the research groups leaded by Professor David Šmajs and Doctor Nicola Silva.

Nicola Silva's research seeks to answer one of the fundamental, unanswered biological questions

Some of the most deleterious stimuli that can compromise genome integrity and lead to cancer development include physical interruptions to both DNA strands, called double-strand breaks (DSBs). It is not only the different stages of DSB that Dr. Nicola Silva from the Department of Biology, Faculty of Medicine, MU, is focusing on in his research.

Department of Biology joins International Cancer Institute

The National Cancer Institute is a project for which almost 1.5 billion crowns have been allocated for the period of 3.5 years from the resources of the National Recovery Plan (NPO) - specifically from the EXCELES program of the Ministry of Education. Prof. Slabý, the head of the Dept. of Biology, is the coordinator of this project at Masaryk University.

The Masaryk University Grant Agency awarded the MUNI SCIENTIST prize for the second time for significant achievements in the field of research. Of the five nominated researchers and their teams, Lumír Krejčí and Pavel Krejčí and Michaela Bosáková, all from the Department of Biology, were awarded for the Faculty of Medicine.
